• Vans have been making the most classic of shoes since 1966 when brothers Paul Van Doren and James Van Doren, along with a few others, founded The Van Doren Rubber Company. • About Vans

In 1966 brothers Paul Van Doren and James Van Doren along with Serge d?Elia and Gordon C. Lee founded a company in Anaheim, California, that has since been at the forefront of street and skate culture, The Vans Doren Company.

In the early days of Vans their shoes were sold directly to the customer and on their first day of business they had orders for 12 pairs of shoes which were later that day ready to pick up. This deck style shoe, originally known at the Vans #44, has since become a classic, the Vans Authentic. These shoes quickly became popular when its sticky rubber soles were picked up by Californian skateboarders and were thus often seen sported around Southern California. In 1975 Vans then upped their game by working with legends Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta to create the Vans #95, a shoe that along with a padded tongue and collar came in a variety of colours and became the first choice for a generation of skateboarders. This shoe is now appropriately known as the Vans Era and continues to inspire through its history new generations of skateboarders.

This was the start for Vans and they have since continued to inspire and transcend the world of action sports dipping their toes into a range of sports including baseball, basketball, wrestling and even skydiving. In 1994 they started to sponsor the Triple Crown of Surfing event in Hawaii and just a year later they became the main sponsor for the inaugural Warped Tour. Then in 1998 Vans cemented their place within the skate scene when they opened their 46,000 square-foot indoor-outdoor skate park at the Block in Orange County.
